SBS’s upcoming comedy sports drama “The Winning Try” has unveiled new stills featuring its supporting cast!

“The Winning Try” tells the story of Joo Ga Ram (Yoon Kye Sang), a former rugby star who falls from grace due to a doping scandal. After he returns to his alma mater as the new coach of its bottom-ranked high school rugby team, he leads the underdog squad on a quest to win the National Sports Festival.

In addition to Yoon Kye Sang, the drama features a strong cast of well-known actors, including Gil Hae Yeon as Kang Jung Hyo, Kim Min Sang as Sung Jong Man, Jang Hyuk Jin as Na Kyu Won, Lee Sung Wook as Jeon Nak Gyun, and Jung Soon Won as Bang Heung Nam. These actors will depict the intense conflict between school principal Kang Jung Hyo, who supports the rugby team, and the so-called “Abolition Quartet.”

First, Gil Hae Yeon returns as Kang Jung Hyo, the principal of Hanyang Physical Education High School and a strong supporter of the school’s rugby team. In the drama, she is the one who brings Joo Ga Ram back as the new head coach after he walks away from the sport. As a motherly figure to his character, she is expected to be a key ally to the struggling team, which has long finished at the bottom.

Meanwhile, Kim Min Sang plays Sung Jong Man, the vice principal of the school, who is always eyeing the principal’s job. His character is an opportunist who manipulates the school to serve his own ambitions and views the nationally lowest-ranked rugby team as a constant nuisance.

In addition, Jang Hyuk Jin plays Na Kyu Won, the deputy superintendent of education and father of Na Seol Hyun (Sung Ji Young), the vice captain of the school’s shooting team. A secret ally to Sung Jong Man, Na Kyu Won is driven by power and has his sights set on the upcoming superintendent election. He shows a ruthless ambition, willing to do whatever it takes to help his daughter win a medal.

Meanwhile, Lee Sung Wook plays Jeon Nak Gyun, the head coach of the school’s shooting team. Jeon Nak Gyun is a ruthless leader who will stop at nothing, including using underhanded tactics, to win medals. To secure funding for the shooting team, he teams up with Sung Jong Man and Na Kyu Won, and he strongly advocates for disbanding the rugby team.

Lastly, Jung Soon Won plays Bang Heung Nam, a high school classmate of Joo Ga Ram and the school’s head aerobics coach. Bang Heung Nam is a contract coach who sides with the vice principal in hopes of landing a full-time position. However, he is torn between his inevitable underdog spirit and unresolved feelings for Joo Ga Ram, with whom he once played on the rugby team.

“The Winning Try” premieres on July 25 at 9:50 p.m. KST.
